Update on the Passing of a Proctor High School Student
To Our Utica Zajednica gradskog školskog okruga,
It is with deep sadness that I share news of the tragic passing of a Proctor High School student following a house fire. On behalf of the entire Utica City School District community, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the student’s family, friends, classmates, and all those who knew and cared for them. This is an unimaginable loss, and our hearts are with the family as they grieve.
The death of a student has a profound impact on a school community. In times like these, it is important to acknowledge the range of emotions students and staff may experience, even among those who did not know the student personally. Grief can look different for everyone, and support is available.
Beginning Monday, January 26, social work counseling support services will be available at Proctor High School throughout the school day. Students are encouraged to reach out to their assigned school social worker or a trusted adult if they feel they need support. Staff members who are struggling are also encouraged to connect with the social work team or the building administration.
Out of respect for the family’s privacy, no additional details will be shared at this time.
We recognize that recent house fires in our community have been deeply distressing, and moments like this remind us how important it is to look out for one another and to lean on available supports. As a school community, we will continue to surround our students and staff with care, compassion, and understanding during this difficult time.
Our thoughts remain with the student’s loved ones, and we will honor their memory by continuing to support one another with kindness and care.
