This summer, students entering grades 5 through 12 had the chance to test their limits and try something new at the district’s free Track & Field Camp, hosted at the Proctor High School track. Held every Monday and Wednesday from July 7 to August 6, the camp introduced students to a wide range of skills across the sport’s many events.
Throughout the camp, students worked on everything from sprint starts and relay handoffs to jumps, throws, and distance running. Coaches broke down proper technique, helped students build strength and speed, and offered supportive, hands-on instruction in a fun and focused environment. Many campers tried events for the first time, learning the fundamentals of high jump, pole vault, steeplechase, and hurdles.
The clinic gave students an opportunity to grow their skills, build confidence, and discover which events they might want to pursue as part of a team. It also served as a powerful reminder that there is a place for every athlete in track and field, whether they are fast, strong, or determined to keep going when the race gets tough.
